Local Government Reorganisation

Councils across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight are changing and the government wants your views.

See the Town Council’s views here https://whiteleytowncouncil.gov.uk/lgr/

Across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight there are currently 15 councils – the government wants to simplify this by creating fewer, larger councils responsible for all services.

The consultation outlines 4 options.

Pedestrian safety around Cornerstone School

For many months the Town Council has been pressing for the works needed around the school to improve safety and see the removal of the red and white barriers.

The delays are due to on going legal issues between the Consortium and Hampshire County Council (HCC).

The same applies to the footpath alongside the school, the Consortium has appointed contractors but work can’t commence until some outstanding legal issues are resolved.

It is hoped that all the issues will be resolved shortly and works will begin early in the New Year.

Starting primary school in 2026?

If your child is 4 or will be 4 by 1st September 2026 they can start school in September 2026.

New Secondary School for Whiteley

Great progress is being made with the build of the new school which is due to open in September 2027. Henry Cort will be moving into the new space and we look forward to welcoming them! The school has excellent facilities for walking and cycling and all pupils will be encouraged to use ‘active travel’. However, in the real world, some travel by car is expected and the Town Council is working with Hampshire Highways to minimise the impact of traffic and parking on the neighbouring roads at drop off and pick up times.

Allotments

There are four allotment sites planned for the new development; Allotment 1 has been completed and the legal work to transfer the site to the Town Council is progressing.

Allotment 2 and Allotment 3 are expected to be completed this year and the Council has asked Vistry to allow access via a licence to occupy, ahead of the legal work to transfer the land.

You can view the locations of the four sites on this link

We are keeping a list of people interested in an allotment, if you would like to be added please use this link

When there is an update on the handover of the allotments we will arrange a meeting for those interested in setting up a management group.

A message from Meon Valley Neighbourhood Watch

We are lucky to live in such a vibrant, welcoming corner of Hampshire — and as Whiteley continues to grow, there’s a great opportunity for us to make our community even stronger by getting involved in Neighbourhood Watch.

What is Neighbourhood Watch and why it matters in Whiteley

“Neighbourhood Watch is the largest volunteer-led crime prevention charity in England and Wales. With over 60,000 active volunteers and over 2 million supporter households, we work across local communities and regions to empower and educate people, as well as to bring communities together” (taken from the NHW website)

Neighbourhood Watch is all about community, communication, and looking out for one another. It helps us stay informed, feel safer, and build relationships with the people on our streets.

In Hampshire (including Whiteley), Neighbourhood Watch schemes are supported by the Hampshire & Isle of Wight Neighbourhood Watch Association. There are over 4,500 schemes across Hampshire, covering tens of thousands of households — and many are right in our area.

  • Local neighbourhood watch groups are run by volunteer coordinators. Schemes work in a variety of ways to reflect the needs of the local community.

By joining or starting a Neighbourhood Watch group in Whiteley, you’ll be able to:

Receive regular, practical advice on crime prevention
Share useful safety information with neighbours
Receive updates from both Neighbourhood Watch and local policing teams
Participate in community-building activities like street coffee mornings or litter-picks
Help make sure every neighbour — including older or more vulnerable people — feels included and supported

How to Get Involved in Whiteley

    1. Check if there’s already a local scheme

Use the postcode search tool on the Neighbourhood Watch Network website: just go to Find My Local Scheme and type in your postcode or street name.

If a scheme already covers your area you can request to join it.

    2. Start a new scheme for your road / estate

If there isn’t a scheme in your area, you can set one up. It’s straightforward, and the Neighbourhood Watch Network offers full support, guidance, and resources.

As a coordinator, you’ll connect with your local Association, map out your scheme’s area, and bring neighbours together.

    3. Make it visible

Once your scheme is approved, you can choose to show it on the national postcode search tool on the Neighbourhood Watch website. This helps other neighbours to find and join you.

    4. Join as a member first

If you’re not ready to lead, that’s fine — register as a Neighbourhood Watch member (it’s free) and then apply to join a scheme.

Why now is a great time

With Whiteley expanding, now is the ideal moment to strengthen the community bonds in Whiteley.
We can shape something positive from the ground up.
New residents benefit from the connections and information.
We’ll all become part of a caring network, not just a growing residential area

If you would like to sign up to Neighbourhood Watch please take a look at www.ourwatch.org.uk and register.
