Whiteley Town Council serves the Winchester District area of Whiteley, maintaining Meadowside Recreation Ground and the numerous play areas.  The Town Council will also be managing the woodlands, sports pitches, allotments, play areas, open spaces and community centre in the new development in due course.

A huge thank you!

Thank you to everyone who supported our Christmas events, both Meadowside Recreation Ground and Barn Farm were buzzing!

Thank you to Whiteley Rotary and Cornerstone School for your support, hope to see you all again this year!

Dates for this year’s events are on the Town Council’s website. Katie our Community Development Officer also has lots of events and activities planned in North Whiteley, see https://barnfarm.org.uk/

Everyone is welcome to attend the events.

Town Council budget for 2026.27

The council has set its budget for next year and agreed to make a precept request of £372,033.  This represents an annual payment of £103, an increase of 4%, for a Band D household.

Play area maintenance

The surfacing and play equipment at Cheshire Close, Mollison Rise and Sorrel Drive are currently being cleaned. The council’s commitment to not using weedkillers/algicide means it is taking a little longer than normal, apologies for the jet washer noise intrusion.

The much loved trampoline at Meadowside play area has a new bed, in the last 10 years the design of the bed has changed so litter can’t collect in the base. Good news!

The Meadowside zipwire guide has been replaced numerous times. It is not designed to take the weight of multiple adults unfortunately.

Autospeedwatch cameras for North Whiteley

The Town Council has continually raised concerns with the North Whiteley Consortium about speeding vehicles in the development area specifically on the unadopted parts of Whiteley Way, Curbridge Way and Bluebell Way.  These roads remain the responsibility of the North Whiteley Consortium, and they remain private  until such time as they are adopted by Hampshire County Council. In the meantime it is the responsibility of the Consortium to arrange  appropriate enforcement measures.

As a result of ongoing concerns from residents the Town Council has received permission from the Consortium  to install AutoSpeedwatch cameras on the unadopted part of the above-mentioned roads. These cameras can easily be moved, operate from rear view and capture number plates of vehicles that are habitually speeding. It is NOT an enforcement camera and does not issue fines or directly penalise a speeding motorist but it provides specific vehicle information when and where there is a road safety threat. Once the data from the cameras is collated and prioritised it can be supplied to the Consortium and where appropriate other agencies for further consideration.

Pedestrian safety around Cornerstone School

For many months the Town Council has been pressing for the works needed around the school to improve safety and see the removal of the red and white barriers.

The delays are due to on going legal issues between the Consortium and Hampshire County Council (HCC).

The same applies to the footpath alongside the school, the Consortium has appointed contractors but work can’t commence until some outstanding legal issues are resolved.

It is hoped that all the issues will be resolved shortly and works will begin early this year.

New Secondary School for Whiteley

Book travel to and from Fareham on Thursdays 9.15am to 2.45pm when traditional buses aren’t viable due to mobility issues or the bus stop is too far away. Wheelchair accessible and fares similar to bus, less than a taxi.

Allotments

There are four allotment sites planned for the new development; Allotment 1 has been completed and the legal work to transfer the site to the Town Council is progressing.

Allotment 2 and Allotment 3 are expected to be completed this year and the Council has asked Vistry to allow access via a licence to occupy, ahead of the legal work to transfer the land.

You can view the locations of the four sites on this link

When there is an update on the handover of the allotments we will arrange a meeting for those interested in setting up a management group.
